Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are the flagship procedure in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. Their success can be traced to NASA and the space shuttle program in the late 1970’s. When NASA had trouble with missing tiles upon re-entry, they developed this method of bonding the porcelain tiles to the undercarriage. This bonding technology was adapted to dentistry and has allowed us to bond porcelain veneers directly to the tooth surface without the underlying metal substructure. This mechanical chemical bond creates an amazingly sturdy restoration, which is as strong as natural tooth structure and one that will not stain.
Dental Implants
Implant dentistry has become our favorite way to replace missing teeth. Missing teeth can cause defects in the bone, shifting and drifting teeth, bite changes, chewing difficulty, excessive wear on remaining teeth, cracking and chipping of remaining teeth, changes and damage to the jaw joint or TMJ, and speech impediments.
TMJ and TMD
Temporalmandibular dysfunction more commonly known as TMJ, affects more than 15 percent of American adults and children. Common symptoms include pain in or around the ear, tenderness of the jaw, clicking or popping noises when opening and closing the mouth, headaches, neck aches, and even growth discrepancies in children.
Crowns
Crowns or "caps" are traditional and commonly used restorations in dentistry today. Because the enamel has to be totally removed for a crown or "cap", the stronger and more conservative onlay or porcelain veneer restoration is generally the treatment of choice whenever possible.
Cosmetic Bonding
Cosmetic bonding refers to restorations made from composite plastic material, and is used similarly to porcelain veneers and onlays. The cosmetic bonding requires no outside lab procedure, and is built directly onto the tooth structure.
Dentures
Loss of teeth may be a result of periodontal disease, tooth decay, genetics, or from traumatic injury. Unless missing teeth are replaced, shifting can occur to the remaining teeth and the inability to chew food may result in serious health problems. Invisalign
One of the newest and most exciting technologies in recent years is the introduction of Invisalign orthodontics. Unlike traditional braces that attach wires to the teeth, the Invisalign system moves the teeth with undetectable clear plastic aligners. Using the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, Invisalign translates Dr. Swenda’s instructions into a series of plastic aligners. Each set is worn for two weeks, moving the teeth gradually until we have achieved the desired result. Most cases are completed within twelve months.
