Latex Free materials are used during your visits with Dr. Swenda. Some people have a serious latex allergy, and exposure to latex products such as latex gloves can cause anaphylactic shock. Dr. Swenda and his office staff have switched to vinyl gloves that are 100% latex free.

In addition to using latex free gloves, our office is committed to practicing asepsis. All working surfaces are eliminated of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Protecting our patient's health as well as our own is very important to us. Every means possible will be used to have a clean and safe working environment.

I-cat-Cone beam 3-D Dental Imaging System

I Cat Cone Beam 3-D Dental Imaing SystemDental Implants

Blending innovation with patient comfort, the i-CATTM Cone Beam 3-D Imaging System produces immediate three-dimensional images of patients' critical anatomy, typically in less than one minute. The i-CATTM provides complete views of all oral and maxillofacial structures and allows Dr. Swenda to make an accurate diagnosis and corrective treatment plan.

With the i-CATTM Cone Beam 3-D Imaging System Dr. Swenda is able to evaluate and analyze critical anatomy for implants, within minutes - right in our office. He is then able to optimize implant treatment and placement and selection of the most suitable implant type, size, location, and angulations prior to surgery.

The i-CATTM Cone Beam 3-D Imaging System provides precise, cross-sectional slices of any desired location in the maxilla or mandible with exact anatomical information, including dimensions and locations.

3-D images assist in determining if bone grafting or sinus lift is warranted in areas of insufficient bone for the implant procedure.

TMJ Analysis

The i-CAT's ability to provide three-dimensional images of the condyles and surrounding structures allows for complete analysis and diagnosis of bone morphology, joint space, and function - all critical to TMJ dysfunction treatment and care.

Lateral TMJFrontal TMJ

The i-CATTM Cone Beam 3-D Imaging System is an invaluable diagnostic tool for Dr. Swenda when treating TMJ disorders. The ten second, high-speed scan captures TMJ open jaw views quickly and accurately.
If you have any questions about the i-CATTM Cone Beam 3-D Imaging System, please contact our office for additional information.

Gendex Orthoralix 8500 DDE

Gendex Orthoralix 8500 DDE

Better diagnostics in panoramic imaging begins with recognition of critical aspects of the patient’s anatomy, especially focal areas. With the new 8500, focal detection is made possible by KINEMAGIC™ Articulated Motion Technology. This morphology-tracing feature precisely follows the patient’s focal trough to ensure constant focus across the image. The result is a highly diagnostic image with consistent magnification.

Images from the new 8500 DDE are clear and sharp due in part to the industry’s smallest focal spot of 0.4 mm. Utilizing the latest software processing algorithms, the image data from this next generation panoramic system produces radiographs that accurately represent critical anatomies of patients.

Along with child and adult pan projections, Gendex added TMJ imaging to the new panoramic system. Both frontal and lateral TMJ projections are easy to capture. Plus these new views add to the system’s value allowing dentists to take images that otherwise may be referred out.

The Wand

The Wand

The Wand is essentially a computer controlled dental injection system. The flow rate of the anesthetic is controlled by a computer. This means that the injection is guaranteed to be slow and steady and therefore comfortable.

Most people who have had a bad experience with injections think that needles sting because the skin is pierced, but this is usually not so. Most often, the sting was caused because the anesthetic was fired in too quickly from a conventional syringe. The Wand is very reassuring for people with previous bad experiences.

What are the Advantages?

  • Researchers have found that the Wand induces less anxiety than any other injection method.
  • The precise control of flow rate and pressure reliably produces a comfortable injection even in potentially more "difficult" areas like the palate, where the tissue is less elastic.
  • The Wand is light weight and handles easily. The pen-like grasp allows Dr. Swenda to rotate the handpiece, which makes it easier to glide the needle into the tissue.

If you have additional questions about The Wand, please contact our office for more information.

Nikon Digital Camera

Nikon D90One of our most important diagnostic tools is the digital camera. Having the ability to review digital images instantly and prior to treatment, it allows the patient and Dr. Swenda to co-discover areas of concern. This is especially important when considering cosmetic changes. Our office uses the Nikon D90 as our primary digital camera. The Nikon D90 has 12.3 megapixel image quality, meeting the demands of even the professional photographer. The images are used for diagnosis, patient communication, treatment planning, treatment confirmation, shade matching, and lecture purposes. We have hundreds of before and after images to view of nearly every type of dental procedure. All of the images taken on this website were taken with our digital cameras. Visit www.nikonusa.com for more information.

Dexis Intraoral Camera

DEXcam 3 Intraoral Camera

Another highly technical digital tool used by Dr. Swenda and his hygiene department, is the intraoral digital video camera. The tiny device is a video camera that moves around inside the mouth and generates a tooth by tooth video exam. The images can be stored and later enlarged and printed.

As it is difficult to see inside your mouth the intraoral camera provides a previously unseen magnified view. The pen-sized camera features a disposable cover to prevent contamination and is completely painless to use. As the camera moves around the mouth it sends video images to a computer which are then displayed on a monitor. The images can then be viewed by Dr. Swenda and his patients. Using the intraoral camera allows the patient to understand their needs by seeing what the dentist sees and then having it explained.

Since the intraoral camera generates images that are stored, enlarged and analyzed, dental problems can often be caught in their early stages. Once treatment options are discussed and agreed upon, our intraoral camera can be used to effectively track treatment progress.  The digital images allow Dr. Swenda to:

  • Provide a higher standard of care for his patients
  • Help detect cavities and fractured teeth
  • Evaluate the condition of existing restorations under high magnification
  • Provide documentation for insurance claims
  • Properly inform and educate his patients
  • Visually observe hard to see parts of the mouth
  • Document and to monitor dental problems

Dexis Platinum Sensor Digital X-Ray System

Dexis Platinum Sensor

PerfectSize Sensor

The ability to take vertical AND horizontal bitewings AND all periapicals with a single sensor eliminates the cost and inconvenience of using multiple sensors of different sizes.

Direct USB Connectivity

Image capture and processing electronics have been fully integrated into the sensor itself, replacing the need for a separate adapter or docking station. DEXIS is the first to offer gold plating on the sensor's USB connector for better durability. Watch the Video below to learn more about this system, or visit Dexis.

EMS/Piezon Master 400 Cavitron

EMS/Piezon Master 400 Cavitron

A cavitron is a dental hygiene tool that uses high frequency sound waves to clean teeth. The Piezon Master 400 Cavitron used in Dr. Swenda’s office is a state of the art instrument that has proved to be a very successful tool in removing tartar from both above and below the gumline. Instead of scaling the teeth with bulky hand scalers, the cavitron ultrasonic cleaner uses oscillating sound waves to gently vibrate the tartar away from your teeth. The cavitron unit is so gentle that it can even be used for deep cleaning and gum therapy without the need for anesthesia. Having your teeth cleaned with a cavitron is a safe effective and painless alternative to traditional cleaning methods. Some of the advantages of the cavitron include:

  • Faster than traditional teeth cleaning methods
  • A pleasant alternative to hand scaling
  • Safe and effective method to clean teeth
